What is the Belt and Road Initiative?
The Belt and Road Initiative, 一带 一路, is a proposal of the Chinese government whose goal is to promote the exchange of goods, technology, capital, and people through mutual connectivity and mutual learning with countries that voluntarily join this initiative. That is, it is an integration project at different levels and degrees of connection.
Areas of cooperation:
The initiative considers several areas of cooperation, such as policy coordination, infrastructure, commercial, financial. Besides, there is one, in particular, that is the involvement of communities. It is the networks of cities and territories that will foster exchange and cooperation between the main local political, economic, and social actors.
Cities and local communities have an essential role to say and do in the Initiative. The part of local communities in the initiative takes shape to the extent that the territories are integrated and foster global value chains.
